In the Mac app, when you press the apostrophe key, the cursor jumps back and overwrites the text. This bug is due to the smart quote in Mac Catalyst. We have contacted Apple to resolve this bug asap.

On 2 June 2023, Apple replied:

All those bugs are still understand analysing and no fix is made so far.

Suggested solution:

  1. In the menu, press Edit
  2. Go to Substitutions
  3. Disable smart quotes.

You may need to disable the smart quotes again if you relaunch the app as it seems that Mac doesn't remember this option. We are looking for a better solution and will update you again in this thread.

10 months later

Update: In macOS Sonoma 14.3, the bug appears to be fixed. However, it seems that Apple engineers may have fixed it by conveniently turning off the spell checker and text substitution. Please let us know if you are experiencing the same thing as us.
